TMD Martial Arts

Give Your Child Skills That Last a Lifetime.

At TMD, kids don't just learn to kick and punch, they learn discipline, focus, confidence, and respect. These are skills they'll carry with them long after they've left the mat.

Experienced Coaches Who Know Kids

Our children's program is structured, encouraging, and a lot of fun. Kids are challenged just enough to grow, supported just enough to believe in themselves, and surrounded by coaches and peers who genuinely want to see them succeed.

Martial arts teaches children to show up, pay attention, and follow through on the mat and in life. The structure of our classes builds habits that translate directly into school performance, home behaviour, and future success.

Every Belt Tells a Story

At TMD Martial Arts, our Children's Program belt system is designed to develop complete martial artists by building technical skill, physical fitness, and strong character. Students are eligible to test approximately every 2–3 months, and advancement is based on earning four stripes — two black and two red — before moving to the next belt.

Progress at TMD is visible — kids can see it, feel it, and wear it. Our belt system gives every child a clear path forward, with achievable goals at each stage.

Belts aren't handed out for attendance; they're earned through skill, effort, and attitude. That's exactly why kids are so proud of them.

Earning Your Stripes

Black Stripes – Technical Skills

Students earn two black stripes by demonstrating proficiency in striking, grappling, weapons, and self-defence. Technical testing takes place every 2–3 months and reflects each student's progress through the curriculum.

Red Stripe – Fitness

One red stripe is earned by completing a fitness test of push-ups, sit-ups, and squat jumps. Requirements increase with each belt level to continually build strength, endurance, and resilience.

Red Stripe – Character

The second red stripe recognizes character development. A form must be signed by a parent or guardian, the student's school teacher, and a TMD instructor — confirming the student consistently demonstrates TMD's core values of respect, initiative, and perseverance.

Once a student has earned 2 black stripes and 2 red stripes, they're ready to advance to the next belt.

Weapons Training At TMD

Weapons training is a core part of the TMD Martial Arts curriculum, introducing students to traditional martial arts weapons in a safe, structured, and age-appropriate way. As students progress through the belt levels, they learn to handle a variety of weapons, including:

Sticks – Students develop hand-eye coordination, timing, and control through single and double stick drills, building the foundation for all weapons work.

Longstaff – The longstaff teaches full-body coordination, footwork, and spatial awareness, as students learn strikes, blocks, and flowing combinations with a longer-range weapon.

Nunchucks – A favourite among students, nunchucks demand focus, precision, and patience — sharpening reflexes and rewarding consistent practice.

Beyond the techniques themselves, weapons training builds concentration, discipline, and respect. Students learn that handling a weapon is a responsibility, and safety is emphasized at every stage. Weapons proficiency is part of the technical testing students complete toward their black stripes, so skills grow steadily alongside the rest of the curriculum.

Classes for every age group

Every class at TMD is built for the age group in the room. We split our weekly schedule by age so that every child trains alongside peers at a similar stage — the drills, pace, and coaching style are all matched to where they are developmentally. Each group trains twice a week: the sweet spot for building real momentum without crowding out school and family time. Find your child's class days below.

Start the week with energy in the right place. Monday classes introduce our youngest students to martial arts through fun, high-movement drills that build coordination, balance, and listening skills.

Tuesdays are for building real skills. Students aged 7–10 work on proper technique, footwork, and self-defence fundamentals in a structured class that challenges them just enough to grow.

A perfect midweek boost for our littlest martial artists. Wednesday classes reinforce what was learned on Monday through games, partner drills, and plenty of encouragement.

Thursdays build on Tuesday's foundation. Students sharpen their techniques, put combinations together, and work toward their next belt with focused practice and team spirit.
